1-Click Payments
1-Click Payments have become a ubiquitous feature across eCommerce and mobile apps, leveraging the groundwork laid by Amazon’s original patent (expired in 2017). Back then, every online purchase meant adding items to a cart, proceeding to checkout, and manually entering your name, billing and shipping addresses, contact details, and payment information before finally clicking “Purchase.”
Today, merchants simply offer a “Save my details for future purchases” checkbox at checkout. When a customer chooses to save their details, your payment and shipping information on file are kept secure within our PCI compliant environment.
Next time someone shops—whether it’s on a desktop, smartphone browser, or an app on a phone or tablet—you can check out in one click or tap. And if any information is ever in need of an update such as a card or change of mailing or shipping address, they can simply go into their account settings and make the necessary changes. The customer will have full control to edit their details before they buy.

Since the patent’s expiration, virtually every major platform and payment service provider has rolled out 1-Click functionality. Modern integrations include:
- Shopify Checkout (with Shop Pay and tap-to-pay options)
- WooCommerce One-Click Checkout extensions
- BigCommerce Instant Buy features
- Magento Express Checkout modules
- Square Online’s Quick Buy button
By using saved profiles to speed up checkout, this method has both cut down on abandoned carts and raised expectations for how easy online shopping can be.
